An optical instrument, drawn in ink

The human eye.

Trace light to the retina. Watch the lens change shape. Look closely at the tissues that make vision possible.

Original line drawing. Front (anterior) is left; back (posterior) is right. Educational schematic, not to scale. Wall thickness and tissue hatching are exaggerated for legibility; this is not a literal histological section.

01 / Layers

A wall with three coats.

From outside inward: sclera, choroid, retina, then the vitreous cavity. Select a coat to inspect the enlarged cut edge. The hatching distinguishes tissues without a colour-coded fill.

02 / An opening

The pupil is a gap.

The iris surrounds an opening through which light passes. The lens sits behind it. Aqueous fluid is in the anterior chamber; vitreous gel is behind the lens.

03 / A different view

Find the fovea on the map.

The fovea is central in the macula, temporal to the optic disc. The separate map is labelled nasal left and temporal right; those relationships are not added to the main section as if everything lay in one plane.

Drawing notes, anatomical sources & toolkit credit

This original vector drawing uses fine contours, clipped tissue hatching and a shared qualitative model. Lens shape, ciliary position, zonular fibres and focus text derive from the same state. The light and neural traces are separate; neither is a calibrated optical or physiological simulation.

Educational, not to scale. Insets enlarge selected structures and the retinal map uses a different view. No diagnosis, treatment or individual visual measurement is provided.
